ICANN announces First IDN ccTLDs
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (“ICANN”) announced that the first non-Latin character Country Code Top-Level Domains will be inserted in the DNS root zone. It concerns so-called „Internationalized Domain Names“ (IDN).
.РФ Russia IDN Domain (cyrillic) from 1 October 2010
.السعودية Saudi Arabian IDN Domain from 12 July 2010
.امارات United Arab Emirates IDN Domain from 22 October 2010
.مصر Egypt IDN Domain (Launch details not known yet)
Starting on December 10, 2009, EURid, the .EU Registry, will begin accepting .EU domain name registrations containing internationalized character sets such as e.g. "ä", "ü", "ö", "é" and so on.
