The Swiss Federal Institut of Intellectual Property informs:
Elimination of fee reduction for online trademark registration applications
Since the end of 2002, Swiss trademark applications can be filed electronically with the Institute via "e-trademark". E-trademark has achieved very quickly an extraordinary success even in comparison with international standards; approximately 95% of all applications are by now filed this way. The reasons thereof may reside in the fact that this system offers both a simpler and quicker application process than the paper filing system and faster internal processing at the Institute. Initially, the Institute granted as an additional incentive an application fee reduction of CHF 100 for using e-trademark, and later increased this reduction to CHF 200, dropping in the process another CHF 40 off the class fee.
The use of electronic filing has evolved over the years to such an extent that a monetary incentive appears no longer necessary. Therefore, the Institute has decided to abolish the application fee reduction for electronic filing with effect from 1 January 2010, with the additional revenue to be used in particular for further developpment of its electronic services.
